Malaria is caused by a parasite called Plasmodium vivax, which is transmitted via the bites of infected mosquitoes.
Statement 2 is correct: The only approved use of a vaccine outside the EU, as of 2022, is RTS,S known by the brand name Mosquirix. RTS, S has been developed by PATH Malaria Vaccine Initiative (MVI) and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) with support from Bill and Melinda Gates foundation. It is a recombinant vaccine.
